Fiji TV stations sign partnership deal

National free-to-air broadcaster Mai TV, yesterday surprised the Fiji market by announcing a partnership arrangement with Pacific Broadcasting Services.

This is to deliver next month’s Federation International Football Association World Cup to its subscriber base as well as Mai TV’s current free channel.

In what will be a total coverage for Fiji, the Pacific Broadcasting Services will deliver all 64 matches and Mai TV’s commercials to its growing list of subscribers.

“We are happy to announce that the FIFA Soccer World Cup will be delivered free and on pay TV at the very same time,” Mai TV’s chief executive officer, Richard Broadbridge said.

“No one person will miss the opportunity to see this event.”

Mai TV’s coverage will miss certain towns like Sigatoka and provinces like the Lau Group.

Pacific Broadcasting Services will be able to offer people living in these areas a chance to watch the matches. “If you’re currently a subscriber of PBS, then you won’t have to pay anything extra,” Pacific Broadcasting Service chief executive officer Simon Fong said.

“If you live in an area where Mai TV is not broadcasting then we suggest you call PBS today and purchase your dish, set top box and subscription.

“As a satellite broadcaster in Fiji we are delighted that Mai TV considered us in their attempt to reach 100 per cent of Fiji. “This is a partnership which will see the FIFA Soccer World Cup offered to everyone in the country for the very first time,” Mr Fong said.

Mai TV broadcasts to greater Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Savusavu, Labasa and parts of Taveuni, Lomaiviti and Ra and owns exclusive pay TV and free-to-air broadcast rights of the FIFA Soccer World Cup in Fiji and 11 other territories.
