National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has clarified that there was no leakage of radioactive material at the cargo area of Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, and passenger area remained unaffected altogether.
There were reports of a suspected radioactive leakage on Sunday 11 AM, IST, out of a sanitized containment that arrived from the Air France plane that arrived previous night.
Central Industrial Security Force, the elite force charged with the responsibility of airport protection detected suspected leak and alerted NDRF.
Immediately one NDRF team was rushed to the spot and “sanitised” the area.
The cargo complex was vacated as a preventive measure.
Later NDRF issued a press release to advise everyone that the leak never happened beyond permissible levels, and passenger area was unaffected at all times.
The airport has operations has returned back to normalcy.
