Chandrasekhara Rao takes oath as first CM of Telangana

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao Monday took oath as the first chief minister of Telangana.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rao at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here.

Eleven cabinet ministers also took the oath with KCR, as Rao is popularly known.

Those who took oath include KCR's son K. Taraka Rama Rao and nephew Harish Rao.

The swearing-in took place a few hours after Telangana came into being as the 29th state of India.

Assuring his full support to India's 29th state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday said Telangana was born due to years of struggle and sacrifices and congratulated its first Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao.

"India gets a new state! We welcome Telangana as our 29th state. Telangana will add strength to our development journey in the coming years," the prime minister tweeted minutes after Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rao.

"Telangana's birth comes after years of struggle and sacrifices by several people. We pay our respects to them today," Modi said.

He said Centre assures complete support to the people and Telangana government in taking the state to newer heights of progress.

He also send his best wishes.

"Congrats to K. Chandrasekhara Rao Garu on taking oath as Telangana's first chief minister. My best wishes to people for the state's development journey."
