Chai Pe Charcha campaign launched by BJP

The BJP will launch its 'Chai pe Charcha (discussion over tea)' campaign for the Lok Sabha elections across 1,000 locations in the country starting February 12, party leader Sushma Swaraj announced.

Narendra Modi, the the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate, will launch the campaign nationwide. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Sushma Swaraj said. The aim is to have a dialogue with at least two crore (20 million) people through the interactive sessions at tea stalls, called Chai Pe Charcha and Chai Chaupal campaign, she added.

This marketing campaign is a symbolic reaction to the Congress taunt targeting Modi, who used to sell tea on trains as a youngster.

The campaigns will take off at tea stalls between 6 PM and 8 PM when people are back from work and every such discussion will have a theme.

The first such discussion which Modi will address at is on the theme of good governance, she said.

The campaign, launched through Citizens for Accountable Governance (CAG) - an NGO supporting Modi, will also be translated in local languages in the states where Hindi or English is not the local dialect but Modi will answer in Hindi, she said.

A video album and poster related to the campaign were also launched today. The campaign has been launched nation-wide after the party's Karnataka unit had set up tea stalls in Bangalore where senior party leaders like Venkaiah Naidu distributed tea to public.
