1984 riots: 3 convicts awarded life

New Delhi, May 9 : A Delhi court on Thursday awarded life sentence to three men convicted of murder in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

The convicts are-Balwan Khokkar, Girdhari Lal and Captain Bhagmal.

The court awarded two-year and a three-year sentence to Mahender Yadav and Kishan Khokkar for rioting.

The court on Apr 30 acquitted Sajjan Kumar but convicted Balwan Khokkar, Girdhari Lal and Captain Bhagmal for murder and rioting.

Kishan Khokkar and Mahender Yadav were convicted for rioting.

The case is connected to the murder of five Sikhs in Delhi's Cantonment area in 1984.

The riots erupted in Delhi and elsewhere following the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.
