Jagan Reddy to be produced in court

Hyderabad, May 28 (IBNS): YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is expected to be presented in court on Monday after he was taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a disproportionate assets case.

Reports said he was taken into custody at around 7-20 pm after the third consecutive day of being questioned.

His party has called for a three-day bandh in Andhra Pradesh while his mother, Vijayamma, an MLA, has launched an indefinite fast outside her home in Hyderabad's Lotus Pond.

"He was arrested. This is a conspiracy hatched before and we were prepared to face any consequence," said a spokesperson of the YSR Congress, Ambati Rambabu late on Sunday.

He said peaceful demonstrations would be organized on Monday.

Security in Hyderabad and other parts of Andhra Pradesh was beefed up since his arrest could spark violent protests.

A high alert has been issued.

Reports said Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy held a security meeting with the top cops and administration.

His supporters are already on the streets for the past days since the grilling began.

Jagan on Sunday, reached the CBI interrogation venue- Dilkusha Guest House- with Congress MP Sabbam Hari and MLAs Nani and Ranga Rao, all of whom have switched sides and started supporting him much to the shock and embarrassment of the Congress whom Jagan has accused of vindictive politics by "misusing" the CBI.

He might be kept in the guest house for the night.

On Saturday, CBI quizzed him on the alleged irregularities connected to the Vodarevu and Nizampatnam Port and Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) project.

Industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad and former Special Secretary Infrastructure Department Andhra Pradesh Brahamananda Reddy, who are accused in the case, were present at the Hyderabad office of the CBI during interrogation.

Jagan was quizzed by the CBI for nearly eight hours on Friday at its Hyderabad office over the disproportionate assets case against him.
He said the ruling Congress and along with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the CBI have targeted him ahead of the by-elections in the state next month.

Jagan told reporters: "I am being targeted by the ruling Congress, which has colluded with other political parties and the CBI to implicate me in false cases.”

The CBI is investigating the role of Jagan in a disproportionate assets case.

Three chargesheets in connection to the case have already been filed by the probe agency. Jagan has been named as the prime accused in the third chargesheet.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court ordered a CBI probe into Jagan's wealth on Aug 11, 2011 after Congress leader P Shankar Rao filed a written petition in Nov 2010 seeking it, terming his property as “ill-gotten”.
