We need to do better: PM

New Delhi, May 22 (IBNS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday night presented the report card of the United Progressive Alliance II headed by him on the completion of third year of the regime, saying though his government could have done better under the economic circumstances prevailing it has done fairly well.

"I will be the first to say that we need to do better," he said and went on to add that despite tough conditions the UPA II has done well without a doubt.

He listed several achievements like poverty reduction and inclusive growth besides health sector achievements like freeing India of polio.

"India is second fasted growing telecom market," he said.

"We added new power generation capacity of of 20,000 megawatt last year," he said.

He said the centre and state coordination should be improved on various issues.

He said record food production was achieved.

He assured that Lokpal will be established to fight corruption and exemplary punishment would be given to the guilty.

"We have to ensure that our economy bounces back," he said.

He urged all political parties to rise above partisan considerations and face the problems unitedly.

The PM presented the report card to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi also delivered a speech highlighting the achievements of the government.

She also called the Opposition behaving irresponsibly on various issues.
