Omkar takes India's gold tally in shooting to 10

New Delhi: India’s Omkar Singh won the 10th shooting gold for the country while his compatriot army man Gurpreet Singh finished fifth in the men’s 10 metre air pistol event at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) here on Friday.

Singapore’s Bin Gai with a total score of 676.2 (580 qualifying, 96.2 final) won the silver while Australia’s Daniel Repacholi won the bronze with a score of 674 (575 qualifying, 99 final) at the Karni Singh Shooting Range here.

Omkar, a Navy man, equalled the Games record in the qualifying round by shooting 584. He shot 97.8 in the final to finish with a total of 681.8. Omkar equalled the qualifying Games record of 584 set by Samresh Jung in the 2006 Melbourne Games.

Gurpreet, who had won the bronze in the 25 metre rapid fire pistol earlier in the day, shot a total of 671.7 (574 qualifying, 97.7 final) to finish fifth.

Omkar and Gurpreet had won the pairs event of the 10 metre air pistol event here on Thursday.
