Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha chief and TV actress Smriti Irani on Tuesday accused communist party workers of assaulting her cavalcade while traveling through Sonitpur district in Assam.
"It is shocking that the police were mute spectators when our karyakartas (workers) were being beaten. There was an attempt to drag our National Vice President Shrimati Sharda Devi out of the car and assault her," she said.
Irani said that the attackers threatened to set her vehicle on fire. She hit out at the Congress government of ‘failing to protect its citizens’.
“In the forthcoming assembly elections BJP will give a befitting reply to the bad governance of the Congress party,” said Irani.
