Air India plane crashes in Mangalore

Mangalore: Mangalore, May 22 (IBNS): An Air India plane from Dubai crashed in Mangalore Airport during landing on Saturday morning. Around 160 people are feared dead.
The crash took place around 6:30 am when the plane overshot the runway, reports said.
The Boeing 737, which had 169 passengers on board, was a Dubai-Mangalore flight.
According to reports, eyewitnesses said the plane burst into flames soon after it landed.
Some eight injured passengers have already been rushed to hospitals.
Around 25 fire tenders at the site are trying to rescue persons who may be trapped inside the aircraft.
The cause of the crash is not known yet.
"I convey my condolences to the victims. The state government is working to ensure that the post crash operations are carried out smoothly. I request the people of Mangalore not to go to the crash site and extend all cooperation to the local administrataion in the operation," Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, who is rushing to Mangalore, said.
