A woman found dead at a Christchurch property has been identified as Sarah Megan Brown, with neighbours describing her as a “nice girl”.
According to a report by ODT, police discovered Brown’s body at a flat on Elderwood Lane, off Purchas St in Edgeware, about 6 am on Wednesday. A 52-year-old man has been charged with her murder and remains in custody.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said the man, who has interim name suppression, was arrested at the scene. He appeared in Christchurch District Court via audio-visual link and was remanded in custody without entering a plea.
The man is due to appear again on October 16.
“Police are not seeking anybody else in relation to this incident,” Baillie said.
“A scene guard remains in place at the address while police complete a scene examination,” ODT has quoted.
Police maintained a presence at the property on Thursday as investigations continued.
Neighbours said Brown’s death had shocked the community. One neighbour told Allied Media that Brown was a “nice girl” and said her partner was “very sad”, as quoted by ODT.
“He said she’s a nice girl … He’s devastated that it’s happened,” as quoted by ODT.
Another neighbour described the homicide investigation as “not nice to have on your doorstep”.
Residents also reported hearing a series of loud noises in the early hours of Wednesday. Several neighbours said they heard about 10 “good loud bangs” around 3 am, as reported by ODT.
Police have continued to examine the property and surrounding area as part of the homicide investigation.
