The incident, which took place on Rangitira Road in Beach Haven, on March 2, was reported to the police at 5:15 pm. A police spokesperson stated that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the robbery and locate the offender, The New Zealand Herald reported.
According to a witness who spoke to the Herald, the street has been cordoned off, and there is a heavy police presence, including armed officers. The Eagle helicopter has also been deployed to the scene.
The witness reported that the armed robbery occurred around 5:30 pm, and as of the latest update, the suspect has not been apprehended, with the helicopter continuing to survey the area.
An employee at Unichem Rangatira, the pharmacy affected by the robbery, confirmed they were cooperating with the police in managing the situation and declined to provide further comment at this time.
The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with their enquiries.
