A police officer has been injured following a shooting incident in South Auckland this morning.

According to police, the officer was carrying out enquiries at a property on Chapel Road in Flat Bush when a firearm was discharged.

"Just after 9.30am, officers were at a property in Chapel Road conducting enquiries when a firearm was discharged at Police," Police said in a statement. 

“One officer has been injured, however at this early stage it appears the injuries are non-life threatening,” it added.

Chapel Road, between Baverstock and Stancombe Roads, has been cordoned off as police respond to the incident.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while the scene remains under investigation.

Police say further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
