Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Auckland on Friday evening, beginning his first official visit to New Zealand since taking office in 2014.

The visit follows stops in Indonesia and Australia and has been described by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon as an "historic" occasion.

PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with PM Luxon during his visit and "review the entire gamut of the bilateral relationship, which had seen significant progress in the last two years".

The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation across a range of sectors as India and New Zealand continue to deepen their ties.

During his visit, PM Modi is also scheduled to meet prominent business leaders and sporting personalities. He will address members of the Indian diaspora at the sold-out Kia ora Modi event at Spark Arena on Saturday. Organisers have advised attendees to bring a copy of their passport for entry. For those who have registered but have not received your tickets yet, kindly scan the QR code and get in touch with the team on WhatsApp.

Labour leader Chris Hipkins is also expected to meet Modi on Saturday evening before the Indian Prime Minister departs New Zealand.

Since becoming Prime Minister in 2014, Modi has visited around 80 countries, making him one of India's most widely travelled leaders in recent history. His visit to New Zealand comes as both countries seek to further strengthen their diplomatic, economic and people-to-people ties.
