Pizza Thief Caught After Police Camera Chase

A 28-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly threatening a woman with a knife and stealing her pizzas in Auckland’s central city on Monday night.
The incident unfolded around 9pm on Mayoral Drive, where a woman was returning to her accommodation carrying recently purchased pizzas. She was approached by a man who allegedly brandished a knife. The woman handed over the pizzas unharmed.
The offender fled on foot with the stolen food, but his escape was short-lived. Police camera operators tracked his movements through the central city and guided officers to his location.
“Units responded to the scene and worked in conjunction with Police Camera Operators,” said Inspector Grant Tetzalff.
“Police Cameras had tracked the movements of the man within the central city and were able to direct in staff who arrested the man.
It’s a good example of frontline Police resources working together to keep the city safe and respond to any events that occur," the police statement read.
The man was arrested without incident and has been charged with aggravated robbery. He is scheduled to appear in the Auckland District Court on 16 May
