New call-to-action

A viral video from New Zealand featuring an Indian woman has sparked a widespread debate about life abroad—highlighting both its calm and its quiet drawbacks. Reported by The Economics Times.

According to The Economics Times In the video, the woman shares her experience of living in a peaceful neighbourhood, noting how drastically different daily life feels compared to India. While the calm environment appears comforting, she also describes it as unfamiliar and, at times, isolating.

She points out that she has never interacted with her neighbours, emphasising a sense of distance that contrasts with the close-knit and socially active culture back home. According to her, there is no curiosity about others’ lives, no discussions about money, success, or personal milestones—something many Indians grow up experiencing.

‘No jealousy, no competition’

One of the most striking aspects she highlights is the absence of comparison. She explains that people around her are largely indifferent to displays of wealth or status. Whether someone buys a luxury car or achieves sudden success, it hardly draws attention.

She describes a lifestyle free from gossip, judgement, or constant social chatter, where people mostly mind their own business.

"I am leaving New Zealand as life is very diCerent here. Nobody cares about what is happening outside their homes, they dont care if you even grab their land," the woman was heard saying in the video.

"There is no sense of jealousy. Puri duniya gayi bhaad me, inko bas apne aap se matlab hai. There is no competition, koi life me maza hi nhi hai," she said.

Peace vs. Isolation

However, she also describes this peace as “empty” in certain ways. Without the familiar “desi” energy—the chatter, curiosity, and even occasional interference—life can feel too quiet and lacking vibrancy.

Internet Reacts

The video has triggered mixed reactions online. Some viewers praised the lifestyle, calling it peaceful, liberating, and mentally healthy. Others argued that such silence can feel lonely, stressing the importance of human connection—even if it comes with imperfections.

There were also sceptics who said that gossip and competition exist everywhere, just in different forms.

A Larger Question

Beyond the viral debate, the video reflects a broader question faced by many Indians moving abroad: does the promise of peace and privacy outweigh the loss of community and everyday social interaction?

For some, the “live-and-let-live” culture of countries like New Zealand represents freedom. For others, it feels like a trade-off—exchanging warmth and familiarity for silence and space.

The woman in the video does not offer a definitive answer, but her perspective captures both sides of the experience—the comfort of calm and the absence of chaos that, for many, makes life feel truly alive.
