Gurdwara Sri Kalgidhar Sahib in Takanini transformed into a kaleidoscope of colours and flavors on November 12 as more than 35,000 devotees descended upon its grounds on the occasion of Diwali also known as (Bandi Chhor Diwas).
A bird's-eye view from a drone captured the magic of the outdoor spectacle, showcasing a sea of smiling faces, vibrant attire, and an array of delectable delights.
Now, let's talk numbers – because when it comes to Diwali, it's not just about the lights; it's about the feast.
According to the organisers, the Diwali celebrations saw two tonnes of daal, 1.2 tonnes of ice cream, 17,000 burgers, two tonnes of wheat flour, 1.9 tonnes of sweets and 500 kgs of ghee among others being served to the wider community in one day.
Daljit Singh, Spokesperson of Supreme Sikh Society of NZ, appreciated the unsung heroes who made it all happen. "I salute to all our volunteers, sponsors, sewadaars, preachers, management team, NZ Police, Auckland Council, Papakura Local Board, Media partners and our youth team for making this Diwali celebration a grand success.
“Thanks to our wider local whanau and neighborhood for your support and understanding as huge traffic makes it hard to move."
He even revealed NZ Police described it as "an amazing event with not even a single complaint or incident reported".
Community leader Navtej Singh Randhawa said, "It was an amazing response. The numbers speak well for our growing community in South Auckland. Congratulations to the entire team and volunteers for managing this well."
