Man injured in Papakura shooting, police launch investigation
A man has been injured after a shooting in the Auckland suburb of Papakura late this morning.
According to a report by 1News, police were conducting routine patrols in the Clevedon Rd area when officers heard what they believed were gunshots at about 11.20 am, a police spokesperson said.
A short time later, officers "came across a man with a gunshot injury".
Emergency services were alerted soon after. St John confirmed they were called to the scene at 11.24 am, dispatching two ambulances, a rapid response unit and a manager to assist.
"Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Middlemore Hospital in a moderate condition," a St John spokesperson said, as quoted by 1News.
Police, along with the armed offenders squad, carried out inquiries at a property on Grove Rd. However, no arrests had been made as of this afternoon.
"We are following strong lines of enquiry in relation to the people allegedly involved in this incident. Initial indications are that the victim and the offenders are known to each other and there is no risk to the wider community," police said, 1News has quoted.
Cordons that were put in place around Grove Rd have since been lifted.
"We thank all those residents impacted by the cordons for their patience and cooperation," as quoted by 1News.
Residents in the Clevedon Rd and Grove Rd areas can expect an ongoing police presence this evening as investigations continue.
The police Eagle helicopter was seen circling overhead during the response earlier in the day.
