Kiwi Pair Attack Thai Officer, Grab Pistol: Reports

Two New Zealanders have been arrested in Thailand for attacking a police officer, media reports say.

The Bangkok Post reports the men were speeding on motorcycles in a residential area in Phuket, and fled police.

The incident was reported to have occurred on Saturday 16 March in Chalong, south of Phuket.

When they stopped, one of the men reportedly lunged at the officer and tried to take his pistol.

The Bangkok Post also reports the men offered the officers a bribe.

Both have been charged with physical attack against a policeman, bribery, robbery, obstruction of police duty and driving without a licence.

They were expected to appear in Phuket Provincial Court Monday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been approached for comment.
