Injuries After Apartment Explosion In Central Wellington

People are believed to be hurt after an explosion at a central Wellington apartment building.

Fire and emergency are attending the fire on Church Street in central Wellington.

Police say there are reports of injuries.

A policeman at the cordon told an RNZ reporter there had been an explosion at an apartment and all residents have been evacuated from the building.

Fire crews were alerted about 1pm and there are 11 fire crews in attendance.

Roadblocks are in place on Boulcott Street. People are asked to avoid the area.
