Teachers from about 100 early childhood centres across the country will strike on Wednesday for better funding and conditions.

Educators voted for the industrial action last month.

It will be the first time early childhood workers have taken strike action.

New Zealand Educational Institute Te Riu Roa representative Megan White said resources were not supporting staff.

The current model for educators was set to the minimum child-teacher ratios, effectively penalising services for prioritising high quality care for tamariki.

Teachers were not taking strike action lightly and knew the impact the disruption could have on families.
