Concerns raised over plastic found in Tom & Luke Low Carb Snacka Balls
A product withdrawal has been issued for three Tom & Luke brand Low Carb Snacka Balls products due to the possible presence of hard plastic, 1News has reported.
The affected products include batches of its chocolate-coated Cookies and Cream (BB: 11 SEP 2026), Raspberry (BB: 15 SEP 2026, 11 SEP 2026, and 16 OCT 2026), and Hazelnut (BB: 03 SEP 2026 and 11 SEP 2026) Snacka Balls.
According to 1News, the products were sold at selected retail outlets and supermarkets across the country and were also exported to Australia.
"These products should not be eaten. You can return them to the place of purchase for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw it out," New Zealand Food Safety deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle said.
"If you have consumed any of these products and are concerned for your health, contact your health professional, or call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for free advice," 1 news has quoted.
The Ministry for Primary Industries said on its website today that the affected products have been removed from store shelves.
"As is our usual practice, NZFS will work with Smartfoods Ltd to understand how the contamination occurred and prevent its recurrence," Arbuckle said, as quoted by 1News.
The latest product withdrawal follows a similar incident in October, when Tom & Luke brand Protein Peanut Brownie Snacka Balls were removed due to the possible presence of small metal pieces.
