Since his debut in 1998 as a writer for the crime drama Satya, which was later hailed as one of the 100 greatest Indian films of all time, Kashyap has been a pivotal figure in Indian cinema. He is celebrated for his bold departure from traditional Bollywood conventions, focusing instead on the intricate and often contradictory facets of Indian society, thus establishing himself as a pioneer in India's independent filmmaking landscape.
