He’s My Reality Check: Mira Rajput on Shahid Kapoor
Mira Rajput has opened up about the steady support she has always received from her husband, actor Shahid Kapoor, and how his guidance shaped many of her early decisions. Reported by The IndianExpress
When Mira married Shahid in 2015, she immediately became a national talking point — not only because of the age difference between them, but also because she stepped into the public eye at just 21.
Within a year, the couple welcomed their first child, and Mira gradually became a go-to figure for motherhood, wellness, and lifestyle content. But behind the scenes, she dealt with the transition with Shahid as her anchor.
In a recent conversation with Masoom Minawala, Mira spoke candidly about Shahid’s influence in her life and the important lessons she has learned from him over the years.
‘He has always given me a reality check’
Now 31, Mira has evolved far beyond the label of “star wife.” She has built her own identity as an entrepreneur, launching her skincare brand Akind and Dhun, a luxury wellness sanctuary in Mumbai. Throughout this journey, she says Shahid has been her strongest motivator. The IndianExpress
“He has given me confidence,” she shared. “Sometimes self-belief comes from within, but other times, there’s someone who tells you, ‘You’ve got this.’ He has always been that voice.
Every time I’ve had crazy ideas, he has understood what it takes. He’s like the wind beneath my wings—constantly saying, ‘You got this, do it.’”
She recalled a moment from her early career involving her second advertisement, where she was unsure about endorsing the product. “I still remember my second ad.
I wasn’t sure about the product. I was thinking like a mom and said, ‘I don’t want to endorse something I wouldn’t give my kids.’ I was sitting on this high horse saying, ‘I don’t agree with this brand.’ And he told me, ‘I don’t know if you’re doing the right thing. Find the right context.
You’re just starting out—…in the beginning, you may not get these opportunities later.’ It was the hard truth, even if not politically correct.”
She added that she ultimately took his advice and is grateful she did. “He told me to find a way around it—and thank God I did. At that point, he was my reality check.”
‘Another thing I’ve learned from him is discipline’
Mira also spoke about Shahid’s deep commitment to discipline, routine, and family. “The way he wakes up before sunrise, plans his day, makes sure he’s home to spend time with the kids—it’s inspiring. When he’s travelling, he always calls the kids. If he’s in Delhi, he’ll make it a point to meet my family.”The IndianExpress
A partner, a friend, and an advisor
According to Mira, one of Shahid’s strongest qualities is how he listens—patiently but thoughtfully. “He’s a great listener,” she said. “Sometimes you just want to vent without being judged, and he’s that person—but he’s not a blank wall either. He understands, but with a ‘but…,’ and that’s the kind of space I want to be in. Even when he says, ‘Hey, maybe take 30 minutes today and be with the kids’—you need those gentle reality checks.”
She also emphasized that balancing careers and parenthood is always a shared effort between them. “We balance it out. Sometimes I have commitments that take me away for a week, and I tell him I can’t move my dates. He’ll look at his schedule and figure something out. It’s tag-teaming. You need to divide and conquer.”
Through all of this, Mira credits Shahid for being a partner, advisor, and steady force—someone who offers unconditional support, honest feedback, and the kind of discipline that keeps their family strong.
