“I have lost 2 front teeth and my right eye has stopped working I  cannot see."

A Fijian-Indian man born in New Zealand suffered serious injuries on Friday, around 5.30 pm, in an alleged road rage attack and is calling on the community to help locate the driver.

20-year-old Raees Ali, who took to social media to seek help identifying the person who attacked him, said it was because the driver who allegedly attacked him could not navigate through traffic.

Ali claimed the driver of a silver Toyota Land Cruiser Prado followed him for several streets, leading onto Beach Rd, Papakura. The attack allegedly took place at a nearby railway crossing.

A police spokesperson confirmed that they received a report just before 6pm on Friday of a serious assault that happened 30 minutes earlier on Opaheke Road.

"One person sustained serious injuries,"  the spokesperson said.

"Police are investigating the matter."

According to Ali's account, the incident allegedly happened when Ali was on his way back home and had come to a merging lane on Beach Rd after getting off the motorway.

“It was my right of way as the road code states that when cars are merging you are expected to merge like a zipper, one after another, now a silver Toyota Land Cruiser prado was behind me speeding up trying to rush his way to cut infront of me,"  Ali claimed.

New call-to-action

Ali said he had already started following the road after merging.

He claimed that the driver started to follow him  all the way to the Boundary Road railway crossing.

As the railway crossing came down, the traffic stopped and that is when the alleged attacker escalated.

“When everything stops he gets out of the car, comes to my side of the car, drags me out, cheap shots me with 2 hooks, I fall unconscious and after I fell he continues to kick my head and stomp on my face with steel cap boots he was wearing,” Ali wrote on social media.

Ali’s wife, who was travelling with him at the time, took a photo of the car as Ali mentioned he had fallen unconscious.

“After that I have no memory of what happened, I don’t have memory of who the guy is, and I didn’t remember which car it was,” he shared.

“This is not a way to react over traffic,” Ali said.

The social media post was widely circulated and shared by several members of the public, including Hannah Tamaki. Hannah Tamaki JP is the wife of Brian Tamaki, the leader of Destiny Church.

“That poor man.. How dare that driver follow them..he needs to be charged,” she wrote.
