New racist threats against Indians found in Auckland suburb
A fresh incident involving in what appears to be handwritten messages reading “Kill All Indians” on a wall and on a yellow paper in a Royal Oak area public restroom has been circulating online, as public concern grows.
A social media post by Sher Singh Manakdheri, president of Migrant Rights Network NZ, shared the images, stating it was sent to him by a friend .
“Seriously what is going on…,” he wrote.
“K**l All Indians.
This is seriously getting out of hand and someone definitely needs to do something about this.”
Speaking to The Indian Weekender, Sher Singh Manakdheri said that this is "very concerning".
"All i can say is there is a lot of talk that it could be prank. This is not a prank and the wording itself should be taken seriously," Manakdheri told The Indian Weekender.
"Today its an attack on Indian community tomorrow it could be anyone, if we let this get away," he added.
"Today, they are writing on walls, tomorrow they could be writing on people's houses," he said.
Police, in a statement to The Indian Weekender, confirmed today’s incident.
Inspector Jim Wilson, Auckland City East Area Commander, said a report of “wilful damage has been made in the Royal Oak area this morning, 15 April.”
“A threatening message has been written on a wall inside a public bathroom on Campbell Road.
Police take these threats and hate-motivated crime seriously.”
“This report has only just been received by Police. We will now assess this report for further action and lines of enquiry,” Inspector Wilson said.
Less than two days earlier, a similar incident was reported in South Auckland’s suburb of Papatoetoe.
Police said they are investigating a report after “Kill All Indian” was spray painted in red outside Papatoetoe Central School on 11 April. Police are treating it as a “hate-motivated crime”.
The incident has raised concerns about safety within the Indian community, particularly among students in the South Auckland suburb. Papatoetoe Central School caters to primary school students aged five to eleven.
Anyone with information that can assist the investigation is urged to contact Police on 105, referencing number 260415/0381. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
