This year’s International Women Day (March 8) was celebrated with the theme of “press to progress” urging women around the world to press forward and progress gender parity.

Communities are strongly being motivated to think, act and be gender inclusive.

Several organisations in New Zealand celebrated the day in various parts of the country with the similar theme. One such celebration was organised recently for the women of the Punjabi community in Auckland.

Women were from all age groups participated in this afternoon of celebrating womanhood. It was a perfect occasion to see the age gaps being met from the young generation to the old generation coming together, to have a great time and to celebrate womanhood, which is often forgotten in the stress of daily life.

We got to hear some inspiring women from the community who shared their struggles and successes. Important lesson learnt from that segment was that it is never too late to live your dreams.

The event not just about stories and inspirations but also a lot about fun and entertainment. The women participated in some fun games such as ‘have you ever’, designing dresses with toilet roll, getting to know strangers.

The full-filled afternoon concluded with dance and lunch.
