After the success of Ramayan - The Legend Relived with three sold-out shows last year, Chinmaya Mission Auckland in association with Relianz Travel, and Kaysons will be bringing to life one of the oldest, biggest and most amazing epics from Indian history. Mahabharat - The Rise of Dharma – a thrilling production, live on stage for the first time in New Zealand.
Mahabharat: The Rise of Dharma, the play, is certainly the talk of the town and it is likely that you would have heard that the youth at Chinmaya Mission in Auckland are presenting this play end of this month.
After last year’s play on the Ramayana presented in front of 1200 people, it has gone even bigger and attempting to make more people familiar with this timeless epic. The audiences will witness dazzling choreography, vibrant sets and absorbing acting, all woven with a dynamic and powerful soundtrack.
Mahabharat: The Rise of Dharma is a live theatrical production in English staged at the Dorothy Winstone Centre in Sept-Oct 2017.
"Depicting one of the most complex stories in history with subtle messages has been such a challenge that we could not find anyone who had depicted the entire Mahabharat in three hours on a live stage. This inspired the youth of Chinmaya Mission to take this project," Mr Ram Lingam, President of Chimaya Mission Auckland, says.
About the play
This production will be in English to relate to the next generation, so as to make the ancient epic come alive right in front of their eyes. The production is brought together with the help of local talent who have been a part of this epic journey right from script writing to the final performance. This effort involves 60 to 80 participants from 5 years to 29-year-olds.
"It will take some of us back to the memories of old TV series we used to watch. And surprise others with the contemporary style of dance and drama. The production is well suited to all age groups and will inspire children, youth, and adults with dynamic acting, choreography, lighting, and sound," Mr Lingam adds.
The dates for the three shows are as below
Friday 29th of September 7.30 pm onwards
Saturday 30th September 2.00 pm onwards
Sunday 1st October 4.00 pm onwards
Venue: Dorothy Winstone Centre, Auckland Girls Grammar School
