WorkSafe New Zealand has launched an investigation after a worker was critically injured in a fall at NZ Car Parts in Mount Maunganui on Monday, reported the NZ Herald.

According to a report by the NZ Herald, emergency services were called to Tyne St at 8.17 am on September 8, following reports that a man had fallen from around three metres. Hato Hone St John said the worker was taken to Tauranga Hospital in a critical condition. Police also attended the scene.

NZ Car Parts Tauranga Limited owner Terry Lines confirmed the incident, describing the victim as a “highly valued employee” and expressing the company’s concern for the worker and his family. He said the business was cooperating fully with WorkSafe but could not provide further details while the investigation was ongoing, as reported by the NZ Herald.

A WorkSafe spokesperson said investigators are gathering evidence to determine if there were any breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

“Preventing falls should be actively managed so that people working at height are kept safe,” the spokesperson said, NZ Herald reported.
