A 5.4 strong earthquake hit the Hawke's Bay region at about 1.20 p.m. 70 km south-east of Porangahau.

This is very much in line with Geonet's previous warning issued after the 7.8M Kaikoura Earthquake stating that there are 95% chances of aftershocks in the next 30 days.

Any details of property damage or injuries have yet not been reported.

More details are awaited.
