The First flight from India is likely to fly from New Delhi on April 24, with potentially two more flights from New Delhi and Mumbai.
Some clarity has started to emerge as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has captured all expression of interest from the stranded Kiwis in India for catching the govt’s charter flights back home
A letter sent out to those who expressed interest says, “We are planning for the first flight to take leave from New Delhi potentially on 24 April.
“After this initial departure, we expect to organise a further flight from New Delhi and a flight from Mumbai,” the safe travel letter says.
Flights will likely be spaced 24-48 hours apart to allow the necessary practical arrangements to be made on both the Indian and New Zealand sides.
Earlier the Indian Weekender had reported that more than 1200 stranded Kiwis have expressed interest in flying back home by government’s charter flights.
The Indian Weekender spoke with one of the members of the community Kharag Singh who has been stranded in India along with his 95-year-old father who have expressed relief on the latest development.
