New Parent Resident Visa selection system begins
All valid Parent Resident Visa expressions of interest (EOIs) have moved into a single pool under a new hybrid selection system from 5 October 2026.
Under the new system, about 90% of EOIs will be selected in date order through a queue, while the remaining 10% will be selected through a random ballot.
The annual limit of 2,500 Parent Resident Visas approved in principle remains unchanged.
People who had a valid EOI on 5 October do not need to take any action. Immigration New Zealand will provide existing EOI holders with information about their position in the queue once the final ordering and transitional arrangements have been completed.
Queue positions are still being finalised and are not yet available. Immigration New Zealand has asked EOI holders not to contact the agency to request their queue position. Eligible applicants will be contacted directly when the information is available.
The first selection round under the new hybrid model is scheduled for 10 November 2026.
Further information about the next EOI selection round and answers to common questions about the changes is available through Immigration New Zealand's updates.
