Caught On Cam: Customer Spots Mouse in West Auckland's Pak’nSave

A customer at a West Auckland supermarket was shocked to find a mouse running through the aisles on Tuesday, just days after similar incidents at other stores.

Kelly, a Ranui resident, was shopping with her family at Pak’nSave on Lincoln Rd around lunchtime when she discovered the mouse near the bakery section. Disgusted by the find, she quickly grabbed her phone to record the video.

New call-to-action

In a statement to the New Zealand Herald, a Foodstuffs spokesperson confirmed the incident and said pest control is currently on site to deal with the mouse.

Foodstuffs stressed that Pak’nSave on Lincoln Rd has a sound hygiene and food safety record, and that the safety of their customers is their first priority.

This incident follows rodent problems at other supermarkets, including a rat infestation at Countdown Dunedin South, which resulted in the store's temporary closure. Additionally, a video showing a mouse on top of a salad at Christchurch’s Eastgate Countdown prompted an investigation.

Food Safety officials have called for an independent review of Woolworths' pest-management processes across its New Zealand stores, underscoring the importance of rigorous pest-control measures in ensuring food safety.
