Car speeds through Akl street, nearly hits woman before collision

Auckland police have released footage capturing the moments before a serious crash in the central city early Thursday morning, showing a member of the public narrowly avoiding being struck.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Victoria Street, between Queen Street and Hobson Street, when a speeding vehicle lost control and crashed into a police car stopped at the traffic lights.
Reporters at the scene described a badly damaged civilian car, up against a lamp post with airbags deployed, alongside a damaged patrol car, RNZ reported.
According to RNZ, Police confirmed the vehicle was not being pursued at the time. The officer driving the patrol car received minor injuries, while a colleague in the passenger seat was unhurt. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital in a serious condition.
St John Ambulance said three people were treated at the scene, with one seriously hurt and two others sustaining moderate injuries, reported RNZ.
Part of Victoria Street was closed for several hours on Thursday while investigators examined the crash site.
