Arrest After Fake Gun Shown In Facebook Marketplace Deal

A man has been arrested after allegedly presenting what appeared to be a gun to another man during the sale of a vehicle.

Counties Manukau senior sergeant Minho Lee said the two men met up at a petrol station in Auckland's Takanini on Tuesday night after a vehicle was put up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

Lee said the sale price had been agreed upon, but when they met up, the final price caused a disagreement.

"At one point the offender allegedly showed the seller what was believed to be a firearm in his possession."

The interaction ended with the alleged offender driving away in the vehicle that was for sale.

Lee said the incident was later reported to police and the vehicle was found parked on Karangahape Road in the city centre soon after midnight.

"Armed staff approached the vehicle and located the offender in the driver's seat."

Lee said the 35-year-old man was arrested after a fake gun and a large amount of cannabis was found inside the vehicle.

He was expected to appear in Manukau District Court on Wednesday, charged with possessing cannabis for supply and presenting an object like a firearm.

Lee said the vehicle was now back with its registered owner.
