A young Indian MTech student was allegedly stabbed in Australia during a dispute, the victim's uncle revealed, NDTV reported.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 9 p.m. local time in Melbourne, resulting in the death of 22 Year Old Navjeet Sandhu and injury to another student, according to Yashvir, the victim's uncle.

Yashvir explained that Navjeet was fatally attacked with a knife by another student when he tried to intervene in a disagreement over rent between a few Indian students.

"Navjeet's friend, another Indian student, had asked him to accompany him to his house to collect his belongings as he had a car. While his friend went inside, Navjeet heard some noises and witnessed a fight. When Navjeet attempted to intervene and stop the fight, he was fatally stabbed in the chest with a knife," said Yashvir, who is set to retire from the Army in July.

Yashvir added that, like Navjeet, the alleged perpetrator also comes from Karnal.

The family received information about the incident early on Sunday morning. Navjeet's friend, who he was accompanying, also suffered injuries in the altercation, according to the victim's uncle.

Yashvir stated that the family is in a state of shock. "Navjeet was a brilliant student and was supposed to join his family in July for the holidays," he mentioned.

Navjeet had moved to Australia on a study visa one-and-a-half years ago, and his father, a farmer, had sold one-and-a-half acres of their land to finance his education.

"We appeal to the Government of India to assist us in bringing the body back as soon as possible," Yashvir concluded.
