The Consulate General of India hosted a farewell for the outgoing High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ms. Neeta Bhushan, on Saturday, 28 February, honouring her distinguished tenure and contributions. The farewell was hosted in the presence of Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Auckland.

Bhushan’s tenure in New Zealand was a successful, transformative and milestone-driven.

"She played a pivotal role in advancing discussions on the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA), strengthening economic partnerships and enhancing strategic cooperation between the two nations," The CGI read in a statement.

The opening of the Consulate in Auckland under Bhushan's tenure helped deepened India’s engagement with the diaspora and expanded diplomatic outreach, CGI noted.

"Her vision, commitment, and dynamic diplomacy have significantly elevated India–New Zealand relations to new heights, leaving a lasting and meaningful impact on bilateral ties," it added.

The farewell was held at 11.00 AM, followed by Lunch.

Ms Neeta Bhushan has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Poland, following the successful completion of her tenure, the Government of India announced on 20 February 2026.

Bhushan, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1994 batch, is currently serving as India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand and is expected to take up her new assignment shortly.

In a related development, the Government of India had earlier announced on 19 January 2026 the appointment of Muanpuii Saiawi (IFS: 2005) as the next High Commissioner of India to New Zealand. Saiawi is presently serving as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and is also expected to assume her new role soon.

Saiawi, who hails from the northeastern Indian state of Mizoram, will succeed Bhushan, who has served as India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand since 2022.

Bhushan joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1994 and has had a long diplomatic career, with postings in Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
