The commander of Hindi Radio in New Zealand suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away on Saturday, October 13 in Auckland.

Mr Maharaj was known to be the pioneer in starting the Hindi Radio industry in New Zealand such as Radio Tarana, Apna 990 and Humm FM 106.2 and it was under his command the Hindi radio industry flourished in the country.

Soon after the news of his demise spread amongst the community members, tributes from the entire Hindi radio industry and friends with whom he worked and served started pouring in on social media.

“Your contribution to the industry will always be treasured. Jaane Chale Jaate Hain Kahan Duniya Se Jaane Waale!!! RIP Rajesh Ji,” Noneet Lal, a community member associated with the radio broadcasting industry posted on Facebook.

Mr Maharaj worked at Siasat Daily, a news media, Communications Fiji Limited, served as Station Manager at Humm FM 106.2, was a Programmes Director, Executive Sales Coordinator at Apna 990AM, Station Manager/ Programmes Director at Radio Tarana (NZ) Limited. He served in the Hindi radio industry for over 30 years.

Maharaj was also a Trustee for Bharatiya Samaj a Charitable Trust since 1996 doing volunteer and social services for the community.  He is survived by his wife and children.
