Covid-19 updates for 20 October - all the latest on the day's events

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says people should prepare themselves for increasing numbers of daily cases.

Yesterday, the number of new cases reached 94, the highest single-day number since the pandemic began.

Hipkins told Morning Report modelling shows case numbers will double every couple of weeks before levelling out - with different scenarios putting the top figure at either 200 or the high hundreds.

But he said there are signs vaccination rates are starting to have an impact on infections.

Hipkins will today reveal the latest official advice on reopening Auckland schools which have been shut for nine weeks.
