New Zealand has announced a temporary suspension on flights from India to manage the risk presented by large number of Covid-infected travellers.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made this announcement in a hurriedly called press conference this afternoon.
The suspension will come into place at 4 p.m. April 11 and will remain in place till April 28.
This will bar even New Zealand citiznes and residents coming from India to travel back to New Zealand till the suspension is in place.
"This is not a permanent arrangement but rather a temporary measure," Ardern said.
PM Ardern said that Health teams would use the time until April 28 to try and plan safer ways to accept travellers from India - although there were no gaurantees if they could eventually come up with a satisfactory measure.
