The inequalities imparted by Covid-19 has once again come on the fore when technically most disadvantaged and at risk temporary work visa holders who had lost their jobs in the last six months have been left behind from the government’s latest announcement of a new border exception.

In an announcement bringing major relief to a section of large numbers of temporary migrant workers stuck overseas Immigration Minister has announced a new border exception category that can possibly allow thousands of workers to return back into the country.

However, those who have experienced redundancy either because of business facing financial distress during complete lockdown or later or because employees not being able to start job due to border closure would not be allowed to enter NZ under the government’s latest announcement.
