"Masks in Auckland yet not mandated, though encouraged," says Prime Minister

The much antipitated decison around mandated use of masks for everyone who steps out in Auckland has been kept in abeyance, thoush with an emphasis on encouraging to use masks wherever one can when going out.

Responding to questions in the press briefing this morning Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said, "It is still not mandatory to use masks in Auckland, though we strongly encourage people to use it when going out."

Further explaining the reason why it was not being made mandatory at this stage Prime Minister said, "We understand that not everyone will have access to masks yet. We encourage them to get it from their local hardware store."

Ardern also said that the government wanted to give opportunity to people to design their own masks, if they intend to, before making the decision mandatory.
