The New Zealand Hindu Students Forum (NZHSF), in collaboration with Hindu Youth New Zealand, is set to host its annual Navratri Garba celebration, Raas Rangeela 2025, on Friday, 12 September 2025, at Mt Albert War Memorial Hall, Auckland, from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Now in its fourth edition, the much-loved event promises an evening filled with colour, rhythm, and joy, bringing communities together through music, culture, and dance.
Following last year’s success, where more than 150 attendees participated, organisers expect this year’s celebration to be even larger.
Garba, a traditional folk dance from Gujarat performed during Navratri, symbolises unity, devotion, and the celebration of life. Traditionally danced in circles around a clay pot (garbo) with a lit diya, Garba has become a global cultural experience.
Raas Rangeela 2025 will showcase this ancient tradition in a contemporary setting, with live music, vibrant performances, and an open invitation for all, regardless of cultural background or dance experience, to participate.
The evening will feature the return of DJ Sunny (@djsunnyglobal), who will energise the crowd with a mix of traditional taali Garba beats and contemporary favourites.
Food enthusiasts will be treated to a festive spread by Healthy Bites (@healthybitesnz), including Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav, Vegetable Manchurian, Paneer Takatak Sandwiches, and Samosa Chaat.
To add to the excitement, spot prizes for Best Dressed Male and Female will be awarded. The celebration will also be covered by LensCraft NZ (@lenscraftakl), ensuring the memories are well captured.
Event Coordinator Nikhil Anil Sneha said: “This event is more than just dance, it is about celebrating diversity, strengthening community bonds, and sharing the vibrancy of Hindu culture with all. Our goal is to create a space where youth can connect, celebrate their heritage, and welcome others into the joy of Navratri.”
The New Zealand Hindu Students Forum is a student-led organisation dedicated to empowering Hindu students across university campuses, fostering a deeper understanding of Hindu philosophy, history, and values.
With active chapters at Auckland University of Technology and the University of Auckland, NZHSF plans to expand across more universities in the country.
While the celebration is primarily student-focused, Raas Rangeela 2025 warmly welcomes families and the wider community to join in the festivities.
