Cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni has left fans guessing after appearing in a teaser for a project titled The Chase. The short clip, shared by production house Lucifer Circus, shows Dhoni teaming up with actor R. Madhavan in what looks like an action-packed mission.
In the teaser, the duo appear in all-black tactical gear, carrying rifles and sporting dark shades, resembling special force officers ready for combat. The makers captioned the video: “Lucifer Circus presents the ultimate blockbuster! The legend himself, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, joins forces with the brilliant R. Madhavan and the ever-charming Viraj Ghelani, directed by master storyteller Vasan Bala. Buckle up… THE CHASE begins now!”
Interestingly, the team used “MS Dhoni’s Bollywood debut” as one of the tags, sparking widespread speculation about whether this is a film, a web series, or a high-end commercial.
The teaser has taken social media by storm. Many fans celebrated Dhoni’s new avatar, calling him a “real hero.” One wrote, “From Captain Cool to action hero — Thala never fails to surprise us!” Another added, “It’s Thala for a reason,” quoted Hindustan Times.
Though Dhoni has previously featured in commercials and even made a cameo in a Tamil film, fans believe The Chase could be his most significant acting role yet.
The former Indian skipper retired from international cricket in 2020 but continues to be the face of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He last played in May 2025 against the Gujarat Titans. Despite stepping away from international matches, CSK retained him as an uncapped player last season with a ₹4 crore contract.
Meanwhile, R. Madhavan, who was recently seen in the Netflix film Aap Jaisa Koi, is gearing up for his next big release, Dhurandar, a star-studded entertainer also featuring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, scheduled to hit theatres on December 5.
