A range of frozen vegetable products sold under the Deep Brand label is being recalled across New Zealand due to the risk of Salmonella contamination, RNZ reported.

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) confirmed that Vimms Enterprise Ltd has recalled Deep Brand green garlic, sprouted mat, sprouted moong, and surti undhiu mix. All batches and dates of the sprouted mat, sprouted moong, and surti undhiu mix are affected, along with Deep Brand green garlic with a use-by date of November 2026, RNZ reported.

According to MPI, the products were imported from India and sold nationwide at ethnic supermarkets, as well as through Vimms Enterprise Ltd’s online store.

Consumers are advised not to eat the affected products unless they are cooked thoroughly, ensuring they are piping hot all the way through. So far, there have been no reports of illness linked to the products, but MPI urged anyone experiencing health concerns after consuming them to seek medical advice, reported RNZ.

Shoppers can return the recalled items to their place of purchase for a full refund.

Salmonella infection typically causes diarrhoea, fever, abdominal cramps, headache, nausea and vomiting. While most cases last four to seven days, severe illness can persist for up to 10 days.
