Auckland Transport (AT) is correcting an error on its newly unveiled Trains and Rapid Buses route map, after a major road in Manukau was mislabeled.
The new map, part of the promotional rollout for the upcoming City Rail Link (CRL), was showcased to media this week at Waitematā (Britomart) Station by AT Chief Executive Dean Kimpton, alongside representatives from Auckland Council’s Transport Committee and KiwiRail. The map, described as a tool to help commuters “connect more easily with friends and loved ones,” was also uploaded to AT’s website and distributed to the media.
However, sharp-eyed viewers noticed a key mistake on the bus route between Auckland Airport and Manukau — ‘Lambie Drive’ was incorrectly labelled as ‘Lambie Avenue’, despite being a well-known arterial road with dedicated motorway off-ramps.
As reported by RNZ, Auckland Transport confirmed it was aware of the mistake and was updating the map to reflect the correct name.
According to RNZ, the error was located on one of the new rapid bus routes and prompted immediate action from the agency once identified.
The revised map also features a rebranded train network with new lines: the Onehunga-West Line, East-West Line, and South-City Line.
Work on the $5.5 billion City Rail Link, New Zealand’s most ambitious transport infrastructure project, began in 2017, originally expected to cost between $2 billion and $3 billion. While construction is nearing completion, officials at the map reveal declined to confirm an exact opening date.
