Kingston: Sri Lanka thrashed India by 161 runs in the third match of the Tri-Nation Series at Sabina Park here on Tuesday, July 3.
Chasing Sri Lanka's mammoth 348 for one, India were all out for 187 in 44.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja remained the top scorer for India with his unbeaten 49. He hit four boundaries and a six in his knock.
Dinesh Karthik (22), Suresh Raina (33), Murali Vijay (30) and Shikhar Dhawan (24) failed to convert their starts into big scores. Skipper Virat Kohli failed to deliver with his willow and contributed only two runs before losing his wicket to Angelo Mathews.
Rangana Herath picked up three wickets for Sri Lanka. Earlier, Sri Lanka scored 348 runs for the loss of one wicket in 50 overs. Rangana Herath remained the top scorer for Sri Lanka with his massive 174 runs. He hit 19 boundaries and three sixes in his innings.
Tharanga and Mahela Jayawardene (107) added 213 runs in the first wicket partnership. Indian picked up Jayawardene's wicket in the 39th over of the match. But skipper Angelo Mathews did not allow the match to get drifted towards India as he remained unbeaten on 44. Mathews and Tharanga added 135 runs in the second wicket partnership that helped Sri Lanka to post 348 on the scoreboard.
Indian bowlers struggled in the match. R Ashwin picked up Jayawardene's wicket.
