Nagpur: New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori asked his players to keep things simple against Australia in a World Cup Group A match to be held at the Jamtha here on Friday.
"There is no mystery involved - even in a big match. We would like to keep it very simple. Bowl straight, score runs and field well, though on-field innovations are always there," said Vettori.
Vettori said that fast bowler Kyle Mills has failed to recover from his injury.
"Kyle Mills has still not recovered from his injury. We'll take a call on the final XI Friday morning but I am happy with our combination. We will continue to use two spinners in our side," said a confident Vettori.
The 33-year-old Vettori said the appointment of South Africa’s fast bowling legend as a bowling consultant has instilled some confidence in the team, which was going through a 11-match losing streak.
"Having Donald around is a huge bonus for us. I mean one can learn so much from his vast experience. He is a legend of the game and we are honoured to have him. Pacers Hamish Bennett and Tim Southee have certainly improved under the South African great," said Vettori.
Vettori though wants Donald to stay longer with the Black Caps.
"His presence means a lot to us. I would certainly want him to stay longer. Even though we had a dreadful run in the sub-continent but 'White Lightening' brought a lot of positive energy into the team," said Vettori.
Vettori admitted that in the backdrop of the massive earthquake in Christchurch it has been a tough build-up for the players.
"It has been hard for the players but coming practicing for the match has taken their mind away from the tragedy. I sincerely hope that the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy at stake, the team can win against the Aussies," concluded Vettori
