New Delhi: True to the expectation hosts India started their campaign in the shooting event of the ongoing Commonwealth Games on a confident note winning two golds and a silver in the pairs event of pistol and air rifle at Karni Singh Range here Tuesday.
While Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra partnering Gagan Narang gave India its first gold in the games winning the 10 m air rifle for men with a score of 1193, the duo of Sharabat Rahi and Sayyad Anisa buttressed the gold haul scoring 1156 , highest in 25 m women pistol.
In 10 m air rifle, India was followed by England duo of Huckle James and Parr Kuny who got silver with 1174 while Bangladesh bagged its first medal in the Games winning the bronze with 1173.
The 25 m women pistol saw Australia taking the second spot behind India scoring 1146 through Ryan LindaY lalita while English pair of Giekie Gorgs and Lydall Julia came third with 1122.
The third medal of the day for India also came from shooting .
This time Deepak Sharma and Omkar Singh scored 1087 to finish second after Singapore pair of Gai Bin and Lim Swe Hon who earned the gold scoring 1094 in 50 m pistol.
Trinidad and Tobago scored 1081 to get the bronze , its first first medal in the ongoing Games.
Achieving yet another feat in shooting with partner Gagan Narang, Olympian Abhinav Bindra said it was tough for the pair but they overcame the challenge and brought the first gold for India in the Games.
"It was pretty tough for us. All eyes were on us. I am delighted that I am part of this historic moment," Bindra said after victory.
"We both shot well today. I am happy that we could cope up with the challenge of home crowd," he said.
"The Games belong to the athletes and athletes will perform. I am sure all athletes will shine," he said.
With these three medals Tuesday so far, India at the moment lead the medal’s tally with three golds, three silvers and two bronzes.
