The Indian community in Auckland has a grand opportunity to participate in an historic sports moment.
Twenty runners from the Indian community are needed to run with the Queen’s Baton for the Commonwealth Games which will be hosted by New Delhi in October.
Organising spokesman Sunil Kaushal said runners needed to be fit and healthy and have no medical condition that may hinder their run.
“We need your participation to make this event a success,” said Kaushal.
“As time and numbers are limited, it will be great to have one member from each organisation participate in it. First come, first served basis.
“We also need people to come and cheer the runners. The more the merrier.”
If you would like to participate, email

It arrives in Auckland on Monday, May 17 and will coincide with the launch of the New Zealand team's campaign to Delhi.
Students at Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate in Manukau City will be the first to get their hands on the baton before it passes through 11 other south Auckland schools, which are all members of Sir John Walker's Find Your Field of Dreams programme.
The relay began at London's Buckingham Palace on October 29 and will travel through 71 countries before arriving in India on June 25 ahead of the Commonwealth Games, which start on October 3.
